Jacob is over 10 months old now!!!! So much has happened in the last five or so months since my last post. Some highlights are: My brother got married and his wife has given birth to a beautiful baby boy (Jefferson James Gaskin); Our good friend Cecilia came for a visit - we had a great time catching up and touring the Space and Rocket Center; My parents came for a visit and we went gold panning in Dahlonega, Georgia. We met my niece and her family (including her newborn daughter) in Stone Mountain - just outside of Atlanta. We stayed in the park and had a great time seeing the sights!; Our good friends Catherine, Dean and their son Aiden came for a visit. Dean and Val went scuba diving in Florida while Cathering, Aiden and I along with our friend Amy and her daughter Izzy went to the Nashville Zoo; We visited Val's grandma in San Francisco. It was her first time to meet Jacob and she was really happy to see him. Jacob spent his first halloween trick-or-treating in Chinatown; Oh - and did I mention - I am 18 weeks pregnant!!!!!
Jacob has had a lot of "firsts" during this time. There is so much to talk about - it is better if I just summarize some of these experiences and also some of his developing personality traits. Mostly, I just don't want to forget some of these things:
- Due to his ability to crawl, steal other children's toys, and play with trash cans, Jacob has moved up from the infant room to the creeper room. In this room at daycare he has acrued many incident reports, due mostly from falling and hitting his head on the floor, window sill, and book shelf. He has a little bummpy head now - but it goes away depending on the week. He is either a bit fast for himself or a bit clumsy - or maybe a bit of both (he might have tgotten the clumsy gene from his mom). He also stands while holding on to something and often lets go (and then after a few seconds - falls). I think he will be walking soon. He can walk while he pushes a cart around the room - it is really cute.
- He can eat most any food now. If he can't pick it up himself and eat it he doesn't pay too much attention to it. When he can pick it up he eats as much as he can pack into his little tummy (both hand at the same time feed his chipmunk cheeks). He even tries to take the other kids food at daycare....even if it is off the ground. I came to visit him one day and caught him going for some cheese another kid had dropped. His favotire food is Gerber puffs (Apple flavor). He giggles when he sees the cannister.
-He still loves bath-time...his favorite time of the day. Sometimes he cries when we take him out of the bath before he is ready to get out. He is fascinated by the water and the toys in the water. Sometimes he splashes furiously....By the time we take him out the entire bathroom is flooded with water.
- When you feed him a bottle (he is just okay with a sippy cup - still needs practice) - he gingerly rubs your hands and arms. Lately, he has been pulling my hand - to make sure I don't take the bottle away. He loves his formula!
- His favorite toys are Val's ears, nose and mouth. Val can't hold him without getting pulled on. His other favorites are his trucks (he pushes them around and makes vroooooommmm sounds), remote controls, and our cats (though he has trouble catching them). Anything he has two of (he always wants one in each hand - no matter what it is) - he pushes around with his hands - sliding them around as he crawls. He goes fastest with the remote controls and board books. Speaking of crawling - he just learned to climb the stairs (only up so far).
-He almost says "cat" and he says "mom" quite a bit (even when he is not looking at me). He laughs in his sleep. He reaches for you when he wants to be picked up and he gives the best hugs. I don't think I will ever get tired of seeing him smile when I walk into his bedroom in the mornings and when I pick him up from daycare in the afternoons. He loves when I sing "In A Little Cabin", "I Wish I were An Apple", and "The Hokey Pokey".
So I've decided Jacob is the cutest thing I've seen in a long time! (Well, the cutest boy anyway...Abby is pretty amazing, too, of course.) I am SO glad that you guys were at Mike and Amy's tonight!! You look great, and Jacob is so sweet. Brought back good memories...time flies when they're little like this. Enjoy!
